Tarter USA IT Team Designs
The Tarter USA CIO approached me about creating a T-Shirt design for his team. He had seen the Iceland shirt design I had created and wanted something similar for his team.
Given how fun the illustration process was for the Iceland shirt, I set out to do the same with this shirt! In addition to the back illustration, he wanted to include a logo-like graphic that he may want to use in future team-related collateral which would be a fun additional challenge.
Process Stage
This process included two components that needed to be able to be separated from each other, yet still be cohesive; they needed a logo and T-shirt illustration. This needed to achieve the following specifications
Relate to the company’s main existing brand
Be limited in color for cost efficiency
Keep “connectivity” at its core idea
Have the logo be abstract, yet convey the “technology” aspect of their job within the company
I showed a few sketches to the client of the logo design as well as the progressive updates to the illustration as I continued through the development process, to ensure he was getting what he wanted. He seemed confused at some points, but I was able to reassure him that the design choices were fitting of the messaging he was aiming for. Connectivity and communication were key to this process.
In this communication and back and forth, the client loved the lightest sketch on this page the most and was very excited about using it. So, due to this being a very internal project for them, and the amount of passion the client had for this version, we proceeded with that logo variant.
Final Designs
Ultimately, the final designs were able to achieve everything the client wanted:
The use of the American map shows the company’s core value of the “power of an American, family-run business”
The abundance of farm imagery focuses on the main cliental base for the company
The caricature-like drawings provide the playful and fun feature prominent in the previous work I was asked to emulate
Connectivity across the country, and unity for the teams throughout
The shirt was printed on various colors in the end, which allowed for a lot more variability and individuality for the team members!
The client was also really happy with the logo variations we ended on.
